Our Mission
We, the people of St. Anne, are a growing Catholic Community with various gifts and talents, and we are open to the Spirit among us. Rooting ourselves in The Word of God, we reach out to all in loving service, witnessing, and celebrating the life of Jesus Christ in our midst.
Fr. Ron Richards
First a point of introduction, my name is Fr Ron Richards, for those of you who don’t remember me or know me. I say remember because as some of you may recall I spent the summer of 2002 here while I was still in the seminary. Now for some background information on me, which I guess very few of you know or remember. I was born and raised in the Utica/Sterling Heights area, in fact when I was growing up we were literally the LAST suburb north of Detroit in Macomb County. I am the youngest of four (and of course the favorite of my mom). I have an older brother and two older sisters. My mom lives in Washington Twp. now and my father passed away in the fall 1998. Fortunately our entire family is in the Northern Detroit area, my brother is in Lake Orion with his family, my oldest sister is in Oakland Twp with her family and my second oldest sister is in Sterling Heights living in the house we all grew up in.
I was a public school educated boy and a PROUD GRADUATE of Michigan State University (the finest school in all the land). I graduated from MSU with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and worked in the field for a few years. As I was working in engineering, I went to Wayne State to obtain my degree in Education, majored in Physics and minored in Math. After completing that I started teaching at Brother Rice HS where I taught Physics and Math for 9 years.
Along with that, for the first three years at Brother Rice, I was the producer of the theater program between Brother Rice and Marian, for the last six years I was the Varsity Swim Coach (you will find me to be a rather competitive person, what can I say?). It was while teaching at Brother Rice that the call to the priesthood came, so I left Brother Rice and entered the seminary. In doing so, I attended Sacred Heart for the first two years of seminary (studying Philosophy) and then I went to Rome living at the North American College while attending The Gregorian University (Jesuit run university) receiving my Masters Degree in Theology and then a year at the Angelicum (Benedictine run university) where I began my studies in Canon Law.
Currently I am attending Catholic University in Washington DC during the summer months to finish my Canon Law License. TOO MUCH EDUCATION!!!!!! I was ordained on May 29, 2004, and I celebrated one of my masses of thanksgiving right here at St. Anne’s. Prior to coming to St. Anne’s I was the associate pastor at St. Hugo of the Hills in Bloomfield Hills and spent a short three months at St. Joan of Arc in St. Clair Shores. Along with being assigned here at St. Anne’s, I am also the chaplain for Brother Rice and Marian HS, along with being a member of the Formation Team for the College Seminarians at Sacred Heart.
What I like to do? I LOVE ALL SPORTS truly I do. Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Golf etc. name it I love it. Watching and playing, well these days I really only play golf, it is taking a lot longer to recover from injuries in the other sports! Along with this I like spending time with my family and friends (this is very important to me). I am a very social person and I have never been known to be a quiet man, I love interacting with others.
At the same time I can sit down and read a good book or sit in the quiet of nature. I love music, I won’t even tell you how many cd’s I have, but I do have 10,000 songs on my Ipod! I try to workout everyday; it is good for the body, mind and soul. I am a very strange eclectic person aren’t I? I am very happy to be back here at St. Anne’s again. I remember you all fondly from my time spent here in the past and look forward to getting to know all of you in the future. Be patient with me with names too, even as a teacher it took me about 4 weeks seeing the kids everyday to get to know their names, so keep telling me yours when you see me, eventually I will get it!
